This is Auntie Gwen, who blogs on life, love and managing the challenges, but mainly the joys in her case, of bringing up Teens - All on her own...
She's beautiful (even while continuing to drink copious amounts of alcohol and smoke sneaky cigs, as evinced by this early photo!), very brave, eternally sassy, always rip-roaringly funny and is a pure joy to have on board with this blog on Parenting Teens...
Auntie Gwen strikes that balance between being an adored and loving mum, and trying to develop her own life, and who knows, perhaps even find love, outside the home...

We're immensely proud of all she achieves...
And there's often Cocktail drinking involved, and that's never a bad thing where Fhina and Saz are concerned...!

Can you guess the year?
Tiny waist and long legs. I would have been jealous? About 1980?
ReplyDeleteNow that is the kind of Auntie I should have had.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad someone is proud of me !!! I would like to say that I gave up the cigs by age 25 and only now will have a sneaky smoke on nights out. I just can't kick being subversive ! Classy wee scone wasn't I with my can of Newcastle brown ale and my fag ?, not to mention black and pink lipstick, my poor mother !
ReplyDeletegreat pic, great hair, great auntie gewn!!
ReplyDeleteA picture the kids must be proud of! What a cool mum. I wasn't as adored as my twin sister was but now at least my tee-shirts say "Mumma of the Drumma!"
ReplyDeleteI guess the year was 1979 - purely by the hairstyle!
gorgeous! can't wait to meet her - i wonder if she still has the dress?
ReplyDeleteSaz - thanks, it took a long time to do the Siouxie hair, backcombed to buggery and a tub of Boots green "Country Born" gel !
ReplyDeleteLena - love the Mumma of the drumma t shirt
Sue - her ex husband threw away the dress THAT WAS THE ONLY ITEM OF CLOTHING she'd kept, THE ONLY ONE, when he cleaned out the garage about 6 months before they split. I still haven't forgiven him !
"I still haven't forgiven him !" and so you shouldn't! That dress is the type that legends are made of - particularly in the eyes of the grandkids :-)
ReplyDeleteCate - I know it was vintage when I bought it, from a gorgeous shop called Deja Vu in Ruthven Lane, just off Byres Rd in Glasgow. I spend so much time there buying "auld second haun claes" as my mother put it, she was mortified by my penchant for that shop, she thought people would think I was poor not buying new clothes. The black dress was from the 1960's black lace mini with pure silk underneath, swing skirt and a see through lace midriff lined in pink silk with a ruffle of lace at the hem and the throat. That is my favourite piece of clothing of all time, ever.
ReplyDeletePhwoar....
ReplyDeleteNB - thank you and nice to know that's how you will greet me in future !
ReplyDeleteI want a Mumma of the Drumma shirt! And I covet the lovely Auntie Gwennie's gorgeous, tasteful dress!
ReplyDeleteGood on yer girl, for drinking Newcie Broon - A lass after me ain heart! x
Fhina - sadly the dress has gone :( and the newcie broon has been swapped for gin and tonic, I'm still the same at heart though but the drinks have got slightly more ladylike :)
